Signs of Labor - Diarrhoea

Sometimes diarrhoea can be a sign of labor.

In the days before going into labor you may suffer from diarrhoea. This is believed to be your body's way of clearing out your bowels in preparation for the arrival of your baby.

Many women worry that they may pass a bowel motion during labor - so, having diarrhoea prior to the birth is often a good sign since it means there is less chance of a bowel motion during the birth!

The majority of women do not pass bowel movements during childbirth, but if you do, don't worry - the medical staff have seen it all before! And it does happen to lots of laboring women. Passing a bowel motion will be the last thing on your mind as you try to push that baby out!!

If you do have diarrhoea in the days leading up to your labor, mention it to your GP or midwife and drink plenty of water to avoid becoming dehydrated.
