Breastfeeding Questions - Breastfeeding and Digestive Enzymes
I am starting to wean my son from the breast to bottle. He is ten months. Is it okay to take digestive enzymes even though he is still nursing?
I would recommend that you speak to your health visitor or GP before taking any supplements, natural or otherwise, when you are still breastfeeding.
Although it appears to be the case that that some mums find digestive enzymes helpful if they feel their babies are sensitive to something in their breastmilk, a lot of herbal remedies have been untested scientifically on breastfeeding mothers and babies for obvious reasons! And you really do not want to take any risks with your baby's health.
If you feel your baby is sensitive to something in your diet, make a note of what you are eating and how it is affecting your baby. If it seems to be annoying the baby, cut that food out of your own diet and you should see an improvement.
For some information about digestive enzymes, have a look at the bulletin board on the following link:
I hope this helps!
