Breastfeeding Questions - Underwired Bras and Breastfeeding

Hi, I am currently breastfeeding my 5 month old son and enjoying it but I was wondering if I can wear an underwired bra as I am getting quite depressed with the sagginess of my breasts. Could you please advise if an underwired bra will cause my milk to dry up or there is any chance of all of this stopping me from being able to feed my son? I would not risk it if this was the case.

Well done for breastfeeding for so long!

It is generally advised to refrain from wearing underwired bras whilst breastfeeding as the wires can cause pressure on your breasts leading to blocked ducts and mastitis (although just recently some stores have begun stocking underwired nursing bras.)

Some women also find underwired bras affect their milk supply. If you do try one and find this to be the case, then really you should try to avoid them!

However, you should get yourself measured regularly for bra size when you are breastfeeding. A well-fitting bra can make a great difference but it can be trial and error finding one you like.

Get yourself measured by a professional and try on a number of bras in the shop. Or find out what bra size you are and order online.

I hope this helps!
