Pain Relief During Childbirth - Meptid (Meptazinol)

Meptid (Meptazinol) is a strong opiod painkiller which can be given during the early stages of labor to provide effective pain relief during childbirth.

However, as a relatively new drug, it is not widely available and this is something you may wish to discuss with your consultant if you are intending on using it.

As with a Spinal Block, only one dose can be given during labor and it often causes sickness and dizziness. Offering many of the same advantages as Pethidine but without the same level of addictiveness, Meptid is an effective form of pain relief during labor. Plus, as an ordinary analgesic painkiller, it is believed that it does not affect baby's breathing as much as Pethidine.
