6 Weeks Pregnant - Signs of Pregnancy
Mother
At 6 weeks pregnant the changes in your hormones are likely to be causing more noticeable pregnancy symptoms such as morning sickness and sore breasts. You may notice your vagina looks a little bluish or violet due to the increased blood supply in this area. And, on top of all that, it is quite likely that you are feeling very moody and emotional!
Your cervix is softening and cervical mucous is thickening to form a plug in the neck of your womb.
You may have just found out you are pregnant and now is a good time to start taking extra care of yourself. Try planning ahead; consider how you will manage financially when you are on maternity leave as it is a good time to start putting a little extra money aside. Find out about maternity/ paternity benefits and how to apply for free dental treatment and prescriptions.
If you've been attending a gym or exercising regularly it's good to continue although you may need to adapt some of your exercises to suit your pregnancy.
Baby
By now your baby has a noticeable head and trunk, his brain is developing rapidly and he has little buds which will in the coming weeks become arms and legs. His heart is beginning to pump blood around his body and his digestive and respiratory systems are beginning to form. His brain, digestive system and lungs are also developing rapidly. His mouth and jaw, containing 10 dental buds, are developing, as are the lenses of his eyes. Intestines begin to grow, although at this stage they are contained in the growing umbilical cord.
