Needing ideas for baby shower themes?

Once you've decided to organise a baby shower it's sometimes a good idea to plan a theme around it. Baby shower themes can be a great way to get other guests involved in the preparations as well as allowing them to think about the sort of presents that may be fun to give to the prospective parents.

It may be that you decide to have a teddy bear theme, for instance. If this is the case, you can then ask guests to bring along teddy bears for the baby or to help decorate the party table/ room with teddy bears. You may decide to have teddy bear shaped buns/ cakes/ sandwiches and so on, have the baby shower invitations printed on teddy bear themed paper or to bring along a variety of teddy bear themed clothes/ pictures for the new baby.

Anything goes really as long as no-one is offended by your choice of baby shower theme. For example, if you know the sex of the baby, and you know the parents are agreeable to others knowing the sex of their baby, then you could theme the party around a baby boy or a baby girl, or around the colours associated with each sex.

Nursery rhymes or fairy tales are also a good choice of baby shower theme for many baby showers and in these cases guests could bring along their own particular favourites from childhood in the form of books, pictures, cd's and so on which could then be left as gifts for the baby! They could even dress up as their own particular favourite character!

Something else that works really well at baby showers is to ask each guest to write and recite special poems or stories about childhood, about the parents-to-be, or just advice about parenthood that can be recorded or put into a baby shower book. This will then act as a beautiful memento for the expectant parents for many years to come.
