Cervical Cancer Vaccine
At present there is a vaccine available to select groups which protects against the most common strains of HPV and it is likely that this vaccine will soon be offered as a matter of course to all young girls in the UK between the ages of 12-13.
It is thought that the vaccine will prevent around 70% of cases of cervical cancer although it won't protect against all forms of HPV linked to the cancer.
As yet it is not clear whether older girls and women will be offered the vaccine although if you know or suspect your daughter is sexually active you may be able to get the vaccine privately.
