Early Symptoms of Benign Mesothelioma
Early symptoms of benign mesothelioma are often non-existent and its presence is usually discovered during a routine medical or x-ray for other unrelated health problems.
When symptoms are found to be present they are very often the same symptoms as those presented by sufferers of malignant mesothelioma.
After a diagnosis of benign mesothelioma your doctors will decide on what treatments are necessary.
Benign Mesothelioma of the Chest Cavity
For those with benign mesothelioma of the chest the early symptoms include:
Lower back pain
Pain in the side of the chest
Problems swallowing
Chronic coughing
Coughing up blood
A husky/hoarse voice
Shortness of breath
Fever
General weakness
Sweating and fever, at night in particular
Loss of 10%+ of body weight when you aren't dieting
Finger clubbing ie the fingernails and fingers change shape. However, this is extremely rare but is caused by a lack of oxygen in the blood due to pressure of the tumors on the lungs.
Symptoms of Benign Mesothelioma of the Abdominal Cavity
The following symptoms may indicate the presence of benign mesothelioma of the abdominal cavity:
Abdominal pain and /or swelling
Loss of appetite
A Mass which is sometime visible or can be felt upon external examination
Feeling sick or vomiting
Fever
Anaemia
Bowel obstruction
Constipation or diarrhoea
Chest pain
Blood clotting abnormalities
Loss of 10%+ of your body weight when not dieting
Symptoms of Benign Mesothelioma Around the Heart
The following symptoms may indicate the presence of benign mesothelioma around the heart:
Chest pain
Breathing problems
Extreme tiredness
Chronic cough
Heart palpitations.
