Early Symptoms of Pleural Mesothelioma
Early symptoms of pleural mesothelioma are often the same as those for less serious illnesses. This makes it very difficult to recognise the signs of pleural mesothelioma in its early stages.
Although many of the symptoms outlined below are symptoms of pleural mesothelioma, please bear in mind that they are more likely to be due to another illness. Unless you have been exposed to asbestos or other mesothelioma risks in the past, then it is extremely unlikely you will be diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma.
The symptoms of pleural mesothelioma include:
Lower back pain
Pain in the side of the chest
Problems swallowing
Chronic coughing
Coughing up blood
A husky/hoarse voice
Shortness of breath
Fever
General weakness
Sweating and fever at night in particular
Loss of 10%+ of body weight when you aren't dieting
Finger clubbing ie the fingernails and fingers change shape. However, this is extremely rare but is caused by a lack of oxygen in the blood due to pressure of the tumors on the lungs.
