Infertility

Infertility affects women and men of all ages, lifestyles and across all nationalities. Usually, when a couple has been trying unsuccessfully for a year or more to have a baby, they are assumed to have some form of fertility problem.

Often the first steps taken to determine infertility are to examine both the man and the woman to discover which partner is infertile or having problems. Sometimes the answers come quickly and are easily remedied with drugs and/ or surgery. For instance, simple tests can be used to discover whether one of the couple has a hormone imbalance. Or it may be that the man has a low sperm count meaning not enough sperm is produced to impregnate the woman's egg.

Sometimes further, more intensive tests are required if the simple tests do not yield results. In these cases a specialised fertility specialist is appointed.

He or she will then try to determine the causes of infertility, which infertility treatment is appropriate for you and which infertility drugs to use for your individual case before proceeding with treatment.
