‘Mama Milk’ was a wonderful read for someone who already has experience of breastfeeding, but had I read it prior to the birth of my baby I feel it would have been truly invaluable in preparing me for the realities – positive and negative – of breastfeeding. I honestly believe that a lack of information and support is the reason so many mums give up (or worse, don’t even try) breastfeeding, and a resource such as this would have gone a long way towards making me feel less alone and more normal during what was an extremely challenging part of my journey into parenthood. While the book is not an exhaustive resource on breastfeeding, it is much more comprehensive than much of the information currently available and more importantly I feel represents a realistic and fairly typical view of what it’s actually like to make breastfeeding a real part of your new life with your baby. What I love about Sinead's book is her realistic descriptions of the ups and downs of breastfeeding. She breastfed three kids and she doesn't sugar coat anything. She covers everything from buying a bra to weaning, mixing her personal experiences with practical tips. Andi Silverman, author of Mama Knows Breast - A Beginner's Guide to Breastfeeding and blogger at Mama Knows Breast
'Mama Milk' is a lovely and honest account from a breastfeeding Mum’s perspective, rather than some of the dry and sometimes uninspiring advice you get from medical and official breastfeeding resource sites. It’s a good balance and I did enjoy reading it. I think many Mums would find breastfeeding a much more approachable subject with this book. Marie at Sweet Nursing
About the Book
Breastfeeding; it’s best for baby, it’s best for mum. It’s nature’s way…but what is it really like to be a breastfeeding mother?
In Mama Milk, Sinead Hoben, founder of BreastfeedingMums.com shares her own breastfeeding journey; the trials and tribulations, the pleasure and the pain, the humour, rumour and the reality of being a breastfeeding mum.
Mama Milk is the true story of a breastfeeding mother determined to breastfeed no matter what.
With a light dusting of humour, the book details everything from the author’s non-existent breastfeeding preparations to the act of breastfeeding itself, the difficulties encountered to the well-meaning advice proffered, the support required to the support available.
It illustrates what it’s really like to be a breastfeeding mother.
