Missed Period

Although it is not always the case, one of the very first signs of pregnancy for most women is having a missed period, also known as dysmenorrhea. If you have had unprotected sex around the time of ovulation then the fertilised egg will implant in the lining of your womb and your your periods will stop; the developing baby will then be nourished by the lining of the womb which is normally dispelled during menstruation.
If you have had a missed period it is important to see your gp as soon as possible so that he can take a sample of urine for a pregnancy test to ensure you are pregnant and if so to make an appointment for you at your local birthing centre or maternity hospital.
