Pleural Mesothelioma

Pleural mesothelioma refers to mesothelioma in the chest.

The lining of the lungs are called pleura and there are two. They are sometimes known as the pleural membranes. In a healthy person the pleura help to protect the lungs by producing a lubricating fluid which fills the pleural space, the area that lies between the pleural membranes. As a result the lungs move smoothly with each and every breath we take.

When someone is suffering from pleural mesothelioma breathing becomes more difficult and sometimes quite laboured. One of the early symptoms of pleural mesothelioma is shortness of breath so if you know you have been in an environment in the past where asbestos was used, then you should inform your doctor so that he can investigate any shortness of breath or other signs of pleural mesothelioma fully.
