Pregnancy Day by Day: Day 25
By day 25 of your pregnancy you may be able to achieve an early positive pregnancy test from a home testing kit. If the test is positive, then it's time to see that doctor you found for yourself in day 13!
Your gp needs to make your booking in appointment with your maternity unit. By booking you in early you will be able to have regular ultrasound scans and see specialist doctors and midwives who will monitor your condition and attend to you when labour and delivery are imminent.
For this initial appointment with your gp, bring along a urine sample as your doctor will probably want to do a dip stick pregnancy test to confirm any home pregnancy tests you have already tried. You can request a free specimen container from your GP's surgery prior to your appointment. Try to bring along as fresh a sample as possible to ensure the results of the pregnancy test are accurate.
Your gp may want to weigh you, check your blood pressure and possibly take a blood sample once pregnancy is confirmed and you will be given a card detailing your results. At every antenatal appointment between now and your baby's birth, your blood pressure will be monitored to ensure it is healthy. High blood pressure often indicates that pre-eclampsia is a risk to you and your baby whereas low blood pressure can indicate a possibility of dizziness and fainting.
Blood tests will be taken at hospital appointments to ensure you are not at risk of anaemia or gestational diabetes.
