Sleeping Tips for Babies
Having a baby around is never easy and one of the most difficult things in the first period is to get some sleep. In case this is your first child, you might need some tips on how to make him sleep all night, so you could get some rest as well.
First of all, you should make sure that the little one has a steady routine. This means that you should put him to sleep at the same hour and wake him in the morning always around the same time. There are some other aspects also regarding the routine.
A really good routine could be to bathe him, feed him, read a bedtime story and then spend some time in the rocking chair or pat him to make him relax and to make him fall to sleep easier.
Also when setting your expectations, you should be realistic. There is a difference between the sleep that you want and need and how long the baby can sleep. In the first months for sure the little one will wake up in the night and he will demand you to feed him. This is because his stomach is smaller.
Later, after about six months, he will be able to sleep through the night. It is also good to know that babies sleep about 15-19 hours a day, but they don’t do this all in one stretch.
To reduce the number of times the little one wakes up during the night, you might feed him more during the day to meet the nutritional needs that he has and so he will be less likely to wake up during the night. This is an especially good advice in case the daytime feedings are short and the baby tends to get distracted.
Usually adults don’t go to sleep right after getting in bed. This is also true for babies. They need some time to relax and to help them with this you should keep the activity and noise to the minimum around bedtime. There are also some rituals that you could make him get used to, like reading a bedtime story or singing a peaceful song.
It is an option to let the baby cry it out before sleep or to learn to self soothe, but if you are against these methods, be sure that he is in a deep sleep mode before you put him in the crib.
