Stem Cell Cultures
Stem cell cultures are formed when stem cells are taken from either adult tissue or from a dividing zygote and then grown in a culture dish.
Once the stem cells have been extracted from either embryonic material or from adult tissue, they are then placed in a controlled culture which prevents them from further specializing or differentiating but which normally allows them to divide and replicate.
Growing large numbers of embryonic stem cells is usually easier than trying to grow large numbers of adult stem cells. However, promising progress has been made for both cell types.
