Treatment for Light Adult Incontinence(LAI)
Unfortunately, although Light Adult Incontinence is common, very often women don't seek help or discuss the condition with anyone and instead suffer in silence. However, the condition is very treatable.
One way to treat LAI is to try to lose excess pregnancy weight which often contributes to the problem; another is to ensure you do pelvic floor exercises, also known as Kegel exercises, in the weeks leading up to childbirth and that you continue to do them religiously for the rest of your life!
Very often sufferers of LAI find that a combination of weight loss, relaxation and pelvic floor exercises solve the problem within a matter of months, although in some cases medication can also be very beneficial. However, for some women the problem is more serious and if this is the case with you, your gp will probably refer you to speak to a urogynaecologist who will discuss the options open to you. Surgery to repair the damage is a likely outcome if the damage is serious and not showing any improvement after doing pelvic floor exercises
You can also seek advice at a local continence clinic if you don't feel comfortable discussing the condition with your regular doctor.
