Breastfeeding Stories - Learning To Breastfeed

I breastfed because I was afraid my baby wouldn't bond with me and I knew this would increase the bond between us as well as knowing it is the best start you can give your baby.

In the beginning I found it quite easy but as the weeks went on it became quite sore the more regular the feeds but this passed through time. The discomfort only occurred on one side which I now realise was a blocked duct. I went through all the channels of thinking it was thrush, cracked nipples and mastitis but eventually was able to tell the difference between the various symptoms.

When my baby was about 3-4 weeks old I attended a breastfeeding group arranged by Sure Start which helped me immensely. I was able to speak with other mothers who could advise me and reassure me that these problems were perfectly normal and they would pass.

This is where I met you, Sinead, which I found a lifesaver. You were a total inspiration and I congratulate you on this fantastic site.

I really enjoy breastfeeding my baby and I find it a great opportunity to spend time with her and relax together. I have breastfed for the past 8 months and intend to continue breastfeeding until she is twelve months when I return to work.
