Breastfeeding an Active Baby

Babies cannot control their body movements very well when they are new-born. As a result, some babies flail their arms and legs a lot meaning it can sometimes be difficult to position them at the breast - and to keep them there!

One solution to this problem is to simply wrap your baby lightly in a small sheet or blanket when you are breastfeeding him to keep his arms and legs from moving so erratically.

Babies often waken themselves for the same reason. Lightly swaddle your baby by wrapping a light blanket around him. This will help to keep his arms and legs under control.

Or, you may prefer to buy a swaddling blanket to ensure he does not get entangled or overheat.
