Involving Your Partner when Breastfeeding

Sometimes couples worry that because mum is doing all the breastfeeding, that her partner will feel left out. However, this need not be the case.

There are many ways your partner can get involved with your baby apart from feeding.

Ask dad to change the nappies, bathe the baby, take him for a walk, put him to bed and so on.

However, many fathers like to get close to their babies and would love to feed baby a bottle.

There is no reason why you shouldn’t express some milk and let dad feed the baby whilst you take a bath or go for a sleep. Do not worry that this will affect your breastmilk supply since you are simply demanding milk that the baby would have had anyway.

It can actually be a good idea to let baby get used to the occasional bottle of expressed milk.

Ultimately it will mean you can spend a little time away from the baby without worrying that he is hungry!
