Flowers for New Mums
In the vast majority of circumstances, the birth of a new baby is a joyous and wonderful experience for the mother and all other family members. Of course, the ordeal of carrying a baby around for nine months and the agony of birth itself can take their toll on any mother, so it is worth remembering that this time of celebration is also one in which the mother is likely to feel great tiredness. Unfortunately, physical and mental fatigue, when combined with the new mother`s raging hormones, can often lead to frustration, resentment and, in the worst cases, depression. Thus, it is essential that families and friends provide all the help and support that they can offer during the new mother's time of need.
One of the easiest ways in which this can be achieved is for people to be there for both mother and child – or providing the necessary space if requested. Another thoughtful way of expressing care for a mother and her new child is by presenting them both with beautiful bouquets of flowers, which not only brighten up hospital rooms but are excellent additions to the home. Indeed, amidst any negative feelings of frustration and despair, the new mother would no doubt appreciate fragrant and aesthetically pleasing floral arrangements, which can do much to improve a home's ambiance.
Of course, flowers are also popular gifts for new mothers because they can be representative of birth, life and good fortune. Moreover, flowers have become customary offerings at most celebratory occasions, so marking the arrival of a new bundle of joy into the world with a bouquet of roses, lilies and tulips is hardly inappropriate. However, care must be taken when choosing floral gifts as many flowers and plants can trigger allergies in people. Unfortunately, new mothers and their babies are especially vulnerable to contagions as their respective immune systems are in a relatively weakened state. Nevertheless, the dangers posed by flowers are not normally more serious than common cold symptoms, including sneezing and watery eyes.
It is possible to reduce or even eliminate the effects of flower allergies by removing their pollen stems, although this is often easier said than done and must obviously be carried out by someone who is not allergic to flowers. Certain flowers such as the lily can cause especially bad reactions in allergic people, yet their pollen stems can be easily removed. The orchid, on the other hand, is not typically associated with causing allergic reactions in people – although some orchids can cause rather nasty skin reactions – so these are excellent flowers for new mothers and their children. Of course, no flower should be kept within reach of a young baby, who might be accidentally exposed to it physically. The common daffodil, for instance, is actually poisonous and has been known to cause damage to the nervous system and heart paralysis in rare and extreme cases.
Fortunately, the traditional rose is an ideal flower for pollen allergy sufferers. Unlike many other flowers, roses do not easily spread pollen through the air and there is only a small chance of the enlarged pollen particles affecting an individual's respiratory system. Thus, when buying flowers for a new mother, rose and orchid bouquets are among the most effective in terms of avoiding allergic reactions. Seeking the advice of a florist is always worthwhile; however, flowers delivered via online orders will not usually come with any option to remove potentially harmful pollen. Therefore, if the online florist cannot be called directly, it is generally advisable to stick with roses and orchids when celebrating a new birth.
