Stages of Mesothelioma
Stages of Mesothelioma, as for many cancers are most often based on the Brigham staging system.
There are four stages of mesothelioma and they are:
Stage 1 - the tumour is contained within the pleura and there are no swollen lymph nodes.
Stage 2 - by this stage the tumour has spread and there are swollen lymph nodes. However, it will still be possible to remove the tumour without cutting into other internal organs.
Stage 3 - the tumour has spread into the chest wall or heart, through the diaphragm or peritoneum, or outside the pleura and involves the lymph nodes.
Stage 4 - the tumour has spread into other organs through metastases.
