Asbestosis Diagnosis
Before asbestosis diagnosis, your doctor will ask you about any asbestosis symptoms you may have and he will listen to your lungs with a stethoscope. Your lungs will make a very distinctive crackling noise if they have been affected by asbestosis and your doctor will then be in a better position to diagnose you.
The doctor will ask you about yyour work and previous jobs you have held in the past and he will want to know if you have ever been exposed to asbestos. If you have he will also wan to know how long you were exposed to it and whether you were took safety precautions.
If your doctor suspects asbestosis, he will send you for further tests to help onfirm his suspicions. These tests include using a spirometer to measure the amout of oxygen you can inhale and the level of carbon dioxide you exhale; X-rays to look for any lung abnormalities caused by asbestosis; and CT scans which offer greater detail than X-rays and which can detect asbestosis in its very earliest stages.
Once he has all the results, your doctor will confirm his diagnosis and will talk to you about what happens next in terms of treatment options and prognosis.
