BreastfeedingMums.com was founded in 2006 by Sinead Hoben, a mother of three and qualified English teacher.
After meeting local breastfeeding mums at a breastfeeding support group which she attended, Sinead realised there was a huge lack of knowledge, even amongst breastfeeding women, about the benefits of breastfeeding and why women should strive to continue despite the problems and contradictory information sometimes encountered along the way.
Breastfeeding Mums became a way for Sinead to help mothers find and use the advice they were lacking.
Although initially the site was solely intended to address breastfeeding issues, within a short period of time it became apparent it was necessary to expand upon the areas covered. Targeting women trying to get pregnant and pregnant women who craved information about pregnancy, Sinead began researching and writing about all things pregnancy related. From this, the site grew hugely and began to incorporate all mannner of information relevant to mothers the world over.
Today the site's diversity can be seen in the sheer range of topics covered; from infertility to pregnancy, breastfeeding to birth, cord blood donations to birth trauma, health insurance to general family finance. The site is continually adapting to the needs of its visitors and what began as a hobby has now become a full-time job for Sinead.
In recent months Sinead has written and recorded a series of complementary cds/mp3 which have been helping mothers cope with pregnancy, breastfeeding and the stresses and strains accompanying all these changes.
