Pregnancy Day by Day: Day 18
The zygote, ie the union of the sperm cell and the egg cell, begins to rapidly divide. It is surrounded by the zona pellucida which helps to contain the cells. Your baby is on the way to becoming an embryo!
At this point in your pregnancy you will probably not be aware that you are pregnant but if you have any suspicions then make sure you continue to look after your health and take antenatal vitamins and minerals, particulary folic acid which can help prevent neural tube defects such as spina bifida.
