Infertility - Infertility Drugs
Drugs used to treat fertility problems include the following:
• Clomifene (Brand name: Clomid, Clomiphene, Milophene and Serophene)
• Gonadotropins (Brand name: Fertinex, Follistim, Gonal F, Humegon, Metrodin, Pergonal, Preganyl, and Repronex)
• Bromocriptine (Brand name: Parlodel)
IVF (in vitro fertilization) and GIFT (gamete intra-fallopian transfer) are the next steps taken, although these are often very costly procedures and sometimes it is the cost alone that stops infertile couples having numerous treatments.
Fertility treatments can be extremely expensive and can take their toll not just financially on a couple, but also emotionally and physically. Treatments can leave the patient feeling exhausted, angry, weepy and even desolate. Treatments do not guarantee success, but when they do most couples are overjoyed they went ahead. For others, who are not so fortunate, they have to reconsider the financial, physical and emotional consequences each time they repeat their treatment, without guarantee of success.
If you are worried about infertility, it is important to discuss it with your doctor. You will probably be advised to keep a record of your monthly cycle, note when and how often you have unprotected sex and you will also need to take a good look at your current lifestyle.
