Pregnancy Complications - Indigestion
Indigestion is a common pregnancy complication and is most often due to hormonal changes in the early stages of pregnancy. It can be very uncomfortable, even painful and can sometimes lead to, or exaggerate, feelings of nausea.
In later pregnancy indigestion can be caused by the enlarged uterus causing pressure on your stomach and may even lead to heartburn.
Avoiding Indigestion
It is possible to avoid indigestion by swopping large meals for smaller ones and by cutting out foods with a high fat content or which are very spicy. You should also try to correct your posture by sitting upright as this will aid the digestion process.
If your indigestion is very upsetting you should ask your gp or pharamcist to recommend an antacid which is safe for use during pregnancy.
