Signs of Labor - Backache

Backache is often a sign of labor with many women finding that the start of real labor is not unlike premenstrual or period pains. Often the pain is described as a dull ache in the back.

You can help ease this pain by taking a warm bath or walking around and taking plenty of rest in between.

If the pain is coming in regular waves and increasing in intensity, call your midwife or maternity unit as you may be feeling the contractions in your back possibly as a result of the position in which your baby is lying.

Other Signs of Labor:

Diarrhoea

Vomiting

Increased Discharge/ Show

Contractions

Dilation of Cervix

Lightening

Rupture of the Membranes (Waters Breaking)
