Miscarriage Support

Although physically your body will tend to recover fairly quickly after experiencing a miscarriage, with bleeding ceasing after a week or so and normal menstrual cycles returning within a month or so, emotionally it can take much longer to recover.

A lot of women feel a tremendous sense of loss and may grieve for the baby they have lost for many weeks, months and even years afterwards. Some want to talk about it, whereas others would rather cope with it alone. Some couples decide to try again for another baby straight away, whereas for others it takes much longer to come to that decision. Medically there is no reason why you shouldn't try straight away as long as your doctor has told you everything is fine with you physically. However, couples are normally advised to wait until the woman has had one normal period before trying to conceive again. Usually this will help with dating the next pregnancy.

You may like to ask your doctor or midwife for some leaflets or information on coping with miscarriage, or to recommend local miscarriage support groups for parents. Alternatively, there are lots of online support groups, communities and forums where you can discuss your feelings with other parents who have also experienced miscarriage.
